Nokia Windows Phone 7 Concept

Nokia gets from Microsoft over $1 Billion over 5 years!

According to Bloomberg, after the alliance between Microsoft and Nokia some time ago, the company located at Sillicon Valley will pay off over $1 Billion over 5 years for Nokia. The Finn manufacturer promised us that they look forward to launch low-end (or mid-end) Nokia Windows Phone 7 handsets with multi-color cases and reduced hardware capacity.

Nokia Windows Phone 7 Concept

It would be pretty interesting due to the fact that at this time, there is no mid-range or low-end WP7 device available. Last days we saw a Sony Ericsson Xperia 7 prototype, however, I’m sure the handset will be (if the rumors are true) a high-end type. Microsoft’s financial help is welcome, because nowadays, Nokia is facing grave problems which could even bankrupt the company.

I hope these “dark days” will past over and we will see Nokia shine once again.

Sprint CTIA Invite

CTIA 2011: Nexus S 4G, HTC Evo 3D and EVO View Tablet via Sprint!

After MWC, CES and CeBIT 2011, the next event called as the CTIA 2011 will take place later this month. There are some speculations that three new products will be presented by Sprint, which are the following: Nexus S 4G, HTC Evo 3D and EVO View Tablet. I’m pretty excited about these devices, they look quite promising, especially the HTC Evo 3D, likely being a 3D display capable handset.

Sprint CTIA Invite

The Nexus S 4G will be rather an upgrade to the already existing Samsung Google Nexus S, while the other two gadgets, HTC Evo 3D and EVO View Tablet will probably be something new and impressive. Considering that LG can boast with the fact that they have the first smartphone and tablet which supports 3D video capturing and display, it’s time for the other companies to launch some performant products.

Additionaly, we have have no images nor spec info related to any of these upcoming devices, however, certain is the fact that all of them should be high-end handsets. We’ll keep this tuned on!

Apple iPad 2 Overview!

Presented last week, Apple iPad 2 is just an upgrade to the first one rather than a new tablet. It’s lighter, thinner and a lot more powerful. It’s only 8.8mm thick – it even scares Samsung – featuring a 9.7″ display with a resolution of 768 x 1024 pixels, increasing the quality and sharpness of the screen, however, it doesn’t support the ultra Retina display which some people (me too) hoped for. Maybe next time…

Apple iPad 2 Black And White

Under the hood we can find a much more better processor, the 1 GHz ARM-based A5 Dual-Core CPU, being twice as fast as the original one. Apple claims that the graphics capacity on the iPad 2 is nine times faster and considering that the original one wasn’t slow, the upcoming applications should be really impressive.

Taking a look at the back of the slate, we will notice a camera which supports 720p HD video recording, while the front-facing camera is a VGA one for video calls via FaceTime. We’re happy that they added a camera, even if filming with a tablet isn’t comfortable, the feature is welcome.

There are more versions of the iPad 2, the WiFi-only and the 3.5G cellular data one, the second one increasing the price with $130 in the US. The handset will be available on both Verizon and AT&T networks in the US,  while it should be on other carriers worldwide as well. Both versions support GPS, also featuring a gyroscope, increasing the performance of some games.

Apple iPad 2 Thickness

Pretty interesting is that Apple made some multi-color smart covers, allowing customers to change the device’s appearance to their favourite colour. An HDMI adapter is available too, being able to visualize media from you iPad via a TV. I’m not sure what kind of resolution it supports, although I believe that it should be 1080p Full HD. iPad 2 will come in two different colors, White and Black.

Apple iPad 2 Multi-Color

When it comes to software, it was upgraded to the iOS 4.3, which only features slight changes such as new applications related to media editing and sharing.

The pricing in the US is the following:

  • Apple iPad 2 WiFi-only 16GB:$499
  • Apple iPad 2 3.5G 64 GB: $829

The newly-introduced tablet will be available for purchase in the US and most European countries (except Russia) at 11th March, while other countries such as New Zeeland, Japan and Mexico will benefit the tablet’s features only at 25th March.

Finally, I would’ve thought they will launch something better rather than just an upgrade to the original one. The main difference is the Dual-Core processor and the measuring (8.8mm thick and 600 grams light), quite disappointing considering the fact that Apple announces a tablet only once a year.

Samsung Office

Samsung Concerned about Apple iPad 2!

After Apple iPad 2 has been presented last week, Samsung’s Mobile VP, Lee Don-Joo is already talking about the competition between the two companies. The concern is that the iPad 2’s measure, which is only 8.8mm thick, is even thinner than the Apple iPhone 4 or the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (10.9mm).

Even if Samsung don’t have such parts for this feature, they promise that the next tablet they are going to launch will even things up. The first iPad was pretty heavy, being a trouble if you are browsing the internet for over 10 minutes and using only one hand to hold it, however, they probably solved the problem once they made it such thin.

Some weeks ago, there was a leak about a possible 8.9 inch diagonal screen Galaxy Tab… Will it be thinner that the Apple iPad 2?  Time will tell.

Sony Ericsson Windows Phone 7 Device

Windows Phone 7 on a Sony Ericsson?! Just a prototype, for now…

As you can see below, there is a possibility that Sony Ericsson might launch a WP7 handset this year. I’m not being surprised, since nearly all of the top manufacturer’s like HTC, Dell or Samsung has at least one Windows Phone 7 device within their pocket.

Sony Ericsson Windows Phone 7 Device

The design of this “Sony Ericsson Xperia 7” reminds us the HTC 7 Pro, featuring a sliding QWERTY keyboard. It has the significant Windows Phone buttons, the Back, Home and Search. Unfortunately, we have no image with the back of the phone, although I suppose that it should sport at least an 8 MP camera, we’re talking about SE after all..

According to Pocketnow, while they took a closer look to the image, they believe that it uses the older version of the OS, meaning that Sony Ericsson could’ve been working on this handset for a longer time, or it just could be a fake.

I hope that this isn’t just a fake made by a hacker. Wouldn’t it be sexy? WP7 with the Xperia’s design and an at least 8 MP camera?

Samsung Galaxy S II

First Samsung Galaxy S II Hands-On Video!

Here is it folks, the Samsung Galaxy S II’s hands-on video is live and official specification info has been granted, thanks to Engadget. The handset is the thinnest smartphone available, measuring only 8.49 mm (yes, even thinner than SE Xperia Arc), while it boasts with a 1GHz Dual Core CPU based on the Samsung-Made chipset, Exynos.

Samsung Galaxy S II

Let’s take a look at the design. As already told in the previous article, the top of the screen sports the proximity sensor, the speakers and the 2MP front-facing camera for video calling, while at the bottom of the screen you can notice the Menu, Home (Navigation) and Back buttons. The interesting part is the back of the device (previous article didn’t include it), where we can find an 8MP camera which supports 1080p video capture (quite awesome), along with an LED Flash.

Samsung Galaxy S II

The display‘s diagonal measure is uncertain, but we assume that it could be around 4.3 inch, featuring the Super AMOLED Plus technology. According to Engadget, the screen is very bright, opening a possible war between LG Optimus Black’s and Samsung Galaxy S II’s display.

Samsung Galaxy S II vs Samsung Nexus S

Regarding to the software, we hear that the OS that it’s running is the Android 2.3 Gingerbread, though unfortunately the UI is the Samsung-made TouchWiz 4.0. In the hands-on video, noticeable is the fact that while adding a widget is a lot more complicated than the original Android’s solution.

Here’s the video:

No price detail has been given, although the release will be this month, however, only in Asia and Europe. No word of North America, but we suppose that it won’t last longer than 1-2 months.

Attacked from Both Sides, Geohot decides to Rap! (Video)

The famous hacker, George Hotz aka. Geohot created a video on youtube where he’s rapping about the company who confiscated his PC and hard drives to investigate for any proof regarding to the Sony PlayStation 3’s hack.
